Winter 2009-10

Christmas Eve 2009

Dear Friends,

We hope this letter finds you well and ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus. As usual, the year has flown by! Our family is grateful for the health God has given us and for the special times we’ve shared with family and friends.

David continues to teach both English and Korean classes at Faith Evangelical Seminary in Tacoma. He is passionate about preaching the Word and enjoys the opportunities he has to speak in area churches. Thanks to the faithful supporters of David Chung Ministries International, David and Kay were able to go to Rwanda in June to prepare for an Andrew Palau evangelistic festival . David trained counselors for the festival and also spoke at several churches. As a result of the festival preparation, 70,000 people attended this festival and some 5,000 people accepted Jesus into their hearts. Please pray that these people will grow in the Lord to transform Rwanda in their generation.

We fell in love with the people and were touched by their joy and optimism in spite of the pain they suffered with the 1994 genocide. Though we saw the clothing and skeletal remains of many of the genocide victims, we saw how God is continuing to rebuild Rwanda and infuse her people with hope. We plan to return to help equip pastors to meet the needs of their communities through spiritual and physical ministries. God seems to be opening other doors to minister on the continent of Africa as David has also been approached to provide evangelist training in Ethiopia and Nigeria. Please ask God to lead us clearly into the areas where He would have us work.

After Rwanda, David continued on to Ukraine where he taught a course in Old Testament Prophets’ message and theology to approximately 50 pastors. Again, thanks to our supporters, we were able to pay the expenses of these 50 pastors as they met together for a week of education and fellowship. In February, David will return to Kiev, Ukraine to teach an Old Testament course at a seminary. He will then travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where he will hold a leadership conference for Korean missionaries and local Christian leaders. As always, we appreciate your prayers for David as he prepares and travels.

And on the home front:

Grace is 9 and in fourth grade. Our little sweetheart is growing and changing. Her new favorite color is purple and she loves Spanish. She stays busy with activities including Spanish class, swim lessons, and speech. She participated in Upward Cheerleading through our church last winter and will do so again in January.
We always enjoy spending time with Amy who is now 12 years old and in 7th grade. We had several visits with her this year – spring break in Los Angeles, a summer trip to Hawaii, and Thanksgiving here where we took her and Grace to Great Wolf Lodge. She is doing quite well in school and is a beautiful young lady. Grace adores her big sister!

Kay made a job change in August and now works for Costco Pharmacy. She likes the steady hours and being closer to home. The remainder of her time is generally spent keeping up with the family and things at home. She always enjoys the chance to get with friends for dinner or coffee. We are part of a fellowship group at our church that meets about once a month and we have grown quite close to that group.

David’s parents are in good health and are a great help to us by taking care of Grace, the house, and the dogs while we are at work. They recently went to Korea for a couple of weeks to visit family and friends there and had a great trip. On January 18, 2010, they will celebrate their golden anniversary. They (and we) are grateful that the Lord has blessed them with fifty years together in spite of many ups and downs along the way.

Well, I guess that’s about all our news. We love you and love hearing from you. Thank you again to our ministry supporters who allow us to fulfill God’s calling on our lives through your prayers and financial gifts. May God richly bless you all throughout this holiday season and 2010!!!

Yours in Christ,

David, Kay and Grace Chung

We need your prayers

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the LORD's people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that
I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains.
Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should" (Eph. 6:18-20).
